Fencing MST...

"The great mistake is to anticipate the outcome of the engagement; you ought not to be thinking of whether it ends in victory or defeat. Let nature take it's course, and your tools will strike at the right moment." (anonymous)

Mark has worked with nationally ranked junior fencers across the U.S. and at the Junior & Cadet World Fencing Championships.

What is Fencing MST?

Mental Skills Training provides fencers with skills and techniques that can be integrated directly into tournament bouts, in both Pools and DE. It can help you develop the right mindset to prepare for all types of opponents and for all eventualities during a bout.

Fencing MST includes, but is not limited, to helping you:

- develop a pre-competition routine including both physical and mental preparation
- learn how to focus effectively and to refocus if you become distracted
- stay positive and manage your expectations
- release tension including before and during a bout (e.g. in between touches or in your 1-minute breaks)
- handle pressure situations including performing well at 14-14
- stay motivated and energized
- set training and tournament goals
- build your confidence
- use visualization techniques to help learn strategies or moves including co-creating a visualization script/audio file for your i-pod/phone
- learn how to utilize reflective practice
