MST FOR JUNIOR ATHLETES...

"Remember to have fun. When I'm smiling and having fun I perform the best." (Simone Biles)

MST for Junior Athletes

Whether you're a competing junior tennis player, golfer, soccer player, swimmer, in fact participate in any sport, Mental Skills Training (MST) is becoming a more and more integral part of your development. As a junior athlete it's important to learn the right mental game habits early on.

Working on MST with a sport psychology professional provides you with:

- a setting to explore and develop your self-awareness of your athletic performances and overall sports participation.
- a variety of mental game tools that help you improve your focus, self-talk, ability to handle pressure, recovery from making a mistake, visualization, build confidence, set goals, stay motivated, develop a pre-performance routine and, where appropriate, a pre-shot routine e.g. free throw routine.
- the opportunity to talk to somebody neutral about issues that may arise in the junior sports setting e.g. relationship with coaches, balancing school and sports participation, transitioning through age groups, embracing the college recruiting process, coping with expectations.

Video: It is common for junior athletes to focus on the problem (making mistakes), not the solution. Michael McMillan discusses "Turning Problems Into Solutions".

Mark has an appreciation for all sports participation. He has worked with many junior athletes and from a range of sports including basketball, baseball, football, track (from sprinting to 3200m), tennis, golf, swimming, soccer, archery and fencing.
